Posted by:

As we go through the holiday season some people’s holiday cheer turns in to Grinch status. Let that not be you this season!  The stress of the holidays are likely to be overwhelming at times but keep in mind the reason for the season.

While it is easy to get stressed out during this time of year, it is important that you take the preventative steps in maintaining your mental and physical health.

Stress can cause an increased risk of serious health consequences including; obesity, heart disease, depression, etc. (

Holiday Stress Triggers

Learn to recognize what can trigger your holiday stress levels; taking preventative steps can help you disarm them before it leads to a meltdown in the mall parking lot.

Tips provided by

  • Relationships- remember who and what is important, don’t let the season cause turmoil in your relationship(s).
  • Finances- budget your holiday spending BEFORE heading out to the stores. Don’t set yourself up for months of unwanted debt.
  • Physical demands- It is easy to get caught up with holiday parties and shopping non stop but don’t forget to take care of yourself. Lack of sleep, exercise, and proper nutrition are all equal contributors to a weakened immune system. After all, you don’t have time to get sick during this holiday season, do you?

Maintaining Your Health

  • Do something good for others- be altruistic!
  • Do something good for yourself.
  • Laugh- humor can help minimize the importance of stressful experiences.
  • Eat in moderation- just because you ate a lot at the company party doesn’t give you the excuse to eat bad the rest of the month.
  • Exercise- even though it is the holidays, there is NO excuse to ditch your exercise regimen.
  • Sleep- lack of sleep is one of the fastest ways to wear your body down causing your immune system to become weaker.
  • It is okay to say no- don’t run yourself down by trying to make it to every holiday event. Prioritize.
  • Enjoy the season- bake cookies, sit around the tree, enjoy the company of loved ones.
