sickgirlGetting the flu is something everyone is in fear of these days; but if it happens Family Medical Walk-In Clinics want to provide you with the most up to date health-care information.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has put together a guide to help you through this flu season.

How do you know if you have the flu?

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Body aches
  • Headache
  • Chills
  • Fatigue

Helpful home-care recommendations;

  • Stay at home @ least 24 hours after your fever is gone (your fever should be gone without the use of fever reducing medicine).
  • Avoid contact with others as much as possible
  • Drink clear fluids (water, drinks with electrolytes, vitamin C, etc.)
  • Wash dishes in your dishwasher
  • Throw away all tissues and other disposable items in one specific trash can.
  • Have everyone in your household wash their hands frequently with soap and water. If not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

The CDC has provided an informative article that gives you more in depth information on ways to care for yourself or others if the flu ends up in your home.
